01 · Problem

Problem

A small group of local skaters started building Suvilahti DIY in 2011, creating it through volunteer work into a concrete park known far beyond Helsinki, visited by international skate legends like Tony Hawk. Demolition work is scheduled to begin in October 2026 as construction moves into the surrounding Suvilahti area.

02 · Approach

Approach

We flew around, on and above the skatepark with a 360-drone, then processed the footage locally on an M4 MacBook Air with open-source Gaussian splat training tools. The slightly cleaned up result is a lightweight browser-based 3D scene that can be explored on its own.

03 · Outcome

Outcome

  • The park can be explored as a spatial scene.
  • The scan preserves the park’s geometry and surface detail as captured in June 2026.
  • The project placed third in Project ETERNAL. A portion of the prize money was donated to another Helsinki-based skate DIY initiative.
