A future Helsinki skyscraper, layered onto a physical model

The Node · skyscraper visualization

Elisa is the future main tenant of The Node, a Helsinki skyscraper still under construction. With PunaMusta Coloro we built an app-free AR layer for the physical scale model at Elisa HQ, plus a web 3D version for internal communications.

01 · Problem

The thing isn't there yet

The physical scale model showed the building. It did not show Elisa's role in it, the height, the transit connections, the rooftop terraces, or how the surrounding city moves around it.

02 · Approach

Layer the unbuilt onto the built

We started with image-tracking WebAR, opened from a QR by the model. When app-free VPS-tracking (visual positioning) became available we scanned the physical model and anchored AR content directly onto it. The same 3D content also ships as a web 3D walkthrough with bilingual hotspots.

03 · Outcome

Faster alignment, fewer slide decks

  • Visitors to Elisa HQ saw the future building animated, not just sculpted in foam.
  • Elisa floors, transport links, and rooftop terraces became legible at a glance.
  • One 3D asset works as physical-model AR, image-tracking WebAR, and a shareable web 3D version.

Worth knowing before you write a brief

AppsFlyer's 2025 benchmark across 28 billion installs puts Day-1 retention at around 25%. AR apps sit below that floor, because every reviewer is a single-use case, not a habit. WebAR removes the funnel. The link that opened the experience the first time still opens it the second.
