3D viz cuts over 10% off construction rework.

Rework runs around 12% of a typical construction budget. Recent BIM studies point to the same practical lesson: shared 3D understanding catches problems earlier. The mechanism is unglamorous, but useful.

Twelve percent of a typical construction project budget is rework. That is the figure cited across recent peer-reviewed BIM studies, and it is consistent across building, infrastructure, and rail. The number does not move much when you change country, currency, or method of procurement. Rework is a constant.

The same body of research, including a 2025 paper in Nature Scientific Reports on bridge projects and a 2025 paper in Springer Discover Materials on building projects, points to BIM-driven 3D coordination as a way to find clashes and uncertainty before they become site problems.

Why "BIM coordination" is the wrong frame for the value

BIM is a methodology, not a deliverable. Stakeholders do not see BIM. They see the meeting where the architect and the contractor and the developer all look at the same model and disagree about something they could not see in a 2D drawing. BIM gets credit for the savings; the meeting is where the savings happen.
