A postcard becomes an AR mixtape interface

Simma · AR cassette tape

For UK dub producer and sound-system artist Simma, flyAR created AR-active postcards that opened a 3D cassette tape with animated video textures, tape controls, and an audio preview of a new cassette mixtape.

01 · Problem

Problem

The music release needed a promotional object that felt physical, tactile, and true to cassette culture while still being shareable through a phone.

02 · Approach

Approach

We anchored an animated 3D cassette to the postcard through WebAR. The tape included start, stop, and rewind-style controls plus an audio preview.

03 · Outcome

Outcome

  • The physical postcard became the interface for the mixtape.
  • Video texture kept the cassette feeling alive instead of static.
  • The project mixed old-school analog media with browser-based digital interaction.

Brand, retail & product moments

Extend packaging, POS, showrooms, and events into an app-free / browser-based brand moment people can open without installing anything.

Worth knowing before you write a brief

AppsFlyer's 2025 benchmark across 28 billion installs puts Day-1 retention at around 25%. AR apps sit below that floor, because every reviewer is a single-use case, not a habit. WebAR removes the funnel. The link that opened the experience the first time still opens it the second.
